If you want something done right you should do it yourself.
It’s a philosophy Tom Cruise appears to subscribe to.
The movie star just launched a new website devoted to… well, himself.
I know what you’re thinking: There are thousands of narcissistic entertainers in Hollywood and Cruise surely is not the first to create a website for fans.
You’re right, but Cruise’s new entry on the World Wide Web is of particular interest because he more than just about any celebrity has been the subject of numerous YouTube-able moments in the past couple of years.
Do you realize how many matches appear when you Google Tom Cruise?
Video clips of Cruise appearing on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” back in June 2005 (couch jumping anyone?) are still some of the most widely viewed on the Internet today.
And who can forget the infamous video that surfaced last year showing Cruise speaking passionately about Scientology. That clip was seen around the world more than a million times, according to Internet experts.
Cruise’s new personal site includes links to his most recent interview with Winfrey along with the obligatory bio and gorgeous photos of the handsome actor. It also contains a feature that is standard on most celeb sites. In “A Message from Tom” the actor explains: “I created this site as a thank you, to you, for sharing the journey with me and to invite you to continue to explore what the future will bring.” Cruise then goes on to reflect on the 25th anniversary of “Risky Business,” his first starring role and the one that immediately made him a star. The site also includes a short video created by the Museum of the Moving Image looking back on Cruise’s career.
Looking ahead Cruise’s next starring role is as a World War II German officer in “Valkyrie.” Insiders claim the film has suffered serious setbacks and was recently pushed back four months until February 13, 2009, which is not a good sign in Tinseltown. Until then fans of Suri’s daddy can look for him in this summer’s comedy “Tropic Thunder” (which stars Ben Stiller), Cruise makes a cameo that has gotten rave reviews by those who have already gotten a sneak peek of the flick.
