Too Much of a Good Thing

I didn’t know there was such a thing but apparently there are fitness enthusiasts who can actually exercise too much. In fact, there are people out there who almost break down when they miss a day of exercise.

While that sounds like a better struggle than what I sometimes have, it is a real concern for some. In fact, people can have an unhealthy obsession with working out.

They can also deplete the energy that exercise is supposed to increase because they are doing too much. And pushing yourself too far in your workout routine can also lead to injuries.

Yes, there can be too much of a good thing.

For some people, they can’t get enough of exercise. I actually know someone who used to be like that. She couldn’t even brush her teeth without doing some form of it.

So we have to be balanced. Not enough exercise and you won’t get the health benefits or lose the weight. Too much exercise and you run the risk of injury or your body losing strength.

There is nothing wrong with intense exercise. But you can’t have 30 minutes a day of this, seven days a week. Your body needs to rest.

From what I have read, those who are working too hard may experience fever and an elevated heart rate, even when they are resting. It also affects your mood, causing irritability and fatigue.

So why would someone actually struggle with exercising too much? For some people they are trying to make up for the weekend. It could be they felt like they overdid it with eating.

Other people use exercise almost as a punishment on their body. They may not like what they see or they could have other psychological issues where exercise is a way to release.

I will probably never struggle with this but if you do, it is a concern that needs to be taken seriously. Exercise is good but there can be too much of a good thing.
