“PR Newswire” reports that 2011 will see some new fitness trends. A survey published in the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) indicates the following fitness trends for the New Year.
The first is more fitness professionals. Instead of just going with Joe-Schmo down at the gym, people will be seeking the help of fitness professionals who are certified and experienced.
The second is more fitness programs for older adults will be created, tailoring them to their needs. This will help older adults to be more active and healthier.
The third is an emphasis on strength training and incorporating that into all physical activity programs for men and women.
The fourth trend will be tackling childhood obesity. More programs will be created to deal with what is a growing problem in the United States. By intervening while children are young, it will reap long-term benefits.
The fifth is personal training. More people will turn to personal trainers to help them get in shape. That could potentially open the doors for more job opportunities.
The sixth is a focus on core training, which is different than strength training. This focus is on the middle section of the body, which helps with the spine.
The seventh is exercise and weight loss. In other words, not just focusing on exercise or not just focusing on nutrition but interweaving both. This will help better with managing weight.
The eighth trend is boot camp, a more intense and highly structured activity that is similar to the training you get in the military.
The ninth trend is functional fitness. It is geared toward using strength training to improve one’s balance and their ease of daily living. This will be helpful to older adults.
The final trend for 2011 will be physician referrals. This will integrate health and fitness into patient’s lives.
We will see how this all plays out. Will 2011 prove to be a healthier year for Americans?
