Top 5 Fashion Trends—Would You Wear It?

Fashion Week continues in New York City and celebrities are out in full force showing their support for their favorite designers. Last night, Barbara Walters and U.S. Open champion Roger Federer made appearances at the Oscar de la Renta show. While Courtney Cox, Carmen Electra, and other Hollywood stars have traveled east to be a part of the fashion frenzy. But, what about us—the millions of stay-and-work-at-home-moms who just try to make it through the day without anyone noticing the jelly and cheetos fingerprint stains on our shirts?

When it’s time to change out of your “uniform” what do you slip into? Here are some ideas from some of the world’s hottest designers. The question is: Would you wear it?

1. SHIRTDRESSES

Singing sensation Beyoncé and actresses Ali Landry have been seen around L.A. “getting in touch with their buttoned-down sides” in easy flowing shirtdresses. You can cinch them at the waist with a stylish wide belt or simply use a sash. Either way, if you don’t want to draw attention to your mid-section I would skip the look all together.

2. NECK BOWS

Stars such as Kelly Osbourne and Aisha Tyler have been tying on oversized, floppy bows at the neckline of their tops and dresses. Personally, I think the neck bows are more appropriate on a dress for a 3-year-old going to church, but I never said I was fashion-forward. On the other hand, if you are into neck gear, the bows do add a splash of color to an ordinary dress.

3. BOWLER HATS

Charlie Chaplin made these traditional hats famous and now they are enjoying a comeback courtesy of singer Fergie and actress Lindsay Lohan. With cooler weather right around the corner you may consider purchasing one of these stylish hats in a color that would compliment your fall or winter coat. I’ve seen some with velvet and satin bows attached to the hat’s rim, I would just make sure they were weather-treated before wearing it outdoors in inclement weather.

4. SKINNY JEANS

From actresses Kate Beckinsale and Angie Harmon to Paris Hilton and Jessica Simpson is seems every celebrity female is donning the sleek and sexy, super-slim, tapered denim pants. I owned a few pairs myself in high school and while I could probably still squeeze into them, I’m not sure I would want to. I don’t remember them being all that comfortable and unless I can sprint after a 2-year-old in them I will likely stick to my GAP khakis.

5. TONAL POLKA DOTS

Katie Couric, Heather Locklear and Madonna have all been documented wearing subtle tone-on-tone polka-dot frocks. The understated contrast seems suitable for any body type. I saw a shot of one actress wearing a green polka dot dress—that may be a bit too much for me to pull off, but I would definitely consider wearing the same style in black or dark brown.
