Top 5 Firefox Add-ons You Need at Work

In my last blog, I talked about five add-ons that people may want to use at home while working or in their off hours. These next five add-ons are specifically for people working in an office who are worried about the people walking by who are paying a bit too much attention to their browser.

Now, I don’t want people to think that I’m encouraging employees to goof off at work. But if you’re the paranoid type, and you want some privacy, these would be your saving grace. And if you were to goof off a bit…Well, just don’t tell me about it! I don’t want to feel responsible. 😉

1. Page Title Eraser ~ With the simple click of a button, the name of the website at the top of the tab is now erased. It couldn’t be easier.

2. SnapBack ~ I don’t think the programmers of this add-on were thinking to use it in this particular fashion, but I think it would work quite well for this: When you get into work, start up your browser at the company website, you know, the one you’re actually supposed to be at. Right-click and set that page as the “snapback” page. Now feel free to browse wherever you want to (remember, just don’t tell me about it!) and when you hear footsteps, click the “snapback” button at the top of the browser. Viola, now you’re back on the original page, and doing exactly what you were supposed to be doing. Right? Right.

3. Save Session ~ If you were in the middle of browsing and have several tabs open that you don’t want to lose your place at, but you have to shut your browser down because your boss is making an unexpected visit to your cubicle, simply click on “Save Session” button at the top of the browser, then close out. The next time you open up, you will be exactly where you were before. This is a one-time deal–if you close out again and reopen again, you will be on your normal home page.

4. Minimize to Tray ~ Not supposed to be on the Internet at all? With this add-on, when you minimize Firefox, it goes to the system tray (lower right-hand corner) instead of just to the bar at the bottom of the screen like normal. A tiny icon in the system tray is much less likely to be noticed than the regular bar at the bottom of the screen.

5. Tab Renamizer ~ This is a cousin to “Page Title Eraser” but instead of erasing the tab names at the top, this add-on will rename them to innocuous sites like “Google” or “Wikipedia.”

Well, that’s my top five list of add-ons for anyone wanting privacy on the Internet. In my next blog, I thought I would list five random add-ons that are useful, but defy being categorized into any particular group. Boy I hate it when websites defy me…

NOTE: I do not work for Firefox, nor am I an affiliate of Firefox. I am not receiving any sort of payment or gifts for mentioning Firefox or Firefox add-ons in this blog. I just happen to think they’re cool, and want to tell my readers about them. Just wanted to make that clear. 😉
