Is it really the end of October? I know I posted the End of October Fitness Goal Check this morning and it always seems to amaze me when we get to the end of the month. After all – it seems the months are flying by faster and faster. Tomorrow is the first day of November and in just 30 short days, we will be celebrating our 1st anniversary here at Families.com. I’ve been writing for the Fitness blog for the entirety of that time and every month it’s a delight to visit with you and write more and more about the fitness trends, ideas and more.
So hats off to you my readers and hats off to the best article of the month that I asked my peers to vote on from what I felt were a selection of my best. The article voted top of the heap for the month of October was: Want to lose weight while sitting at your desk?
This was a fun one to write because it’s something all of us want to be able to do whether we work at home or work in an office. Among the suggestions the article made was to:
- Sit Up Straight – Practicing good posture can actually increase your calorie burning because it requires that you engage the muscles of your core. It will tighten up your lower back and your abdominal
- Flex While You Sit – flexing and stretching your muscles can burn a few calories at a time, but cumulatively it’s a great effect. You can flex your feet, stretch your legs, stretch your face and more
- Take a Walk on your Breaks – Going for a cup of coffee or need to make a run to the bathroom? Take the long route and give yourself a five minute brisk walk – it will wake you up
- Invest in a Ball Chair – This can help you engage your good posture and all of the above in an effort to help you lose weight while you are sitting at your desk
