Top Places to Gobble Til You Wobble

Where will you gobble til you wobble this Thanksgiving?

AAA is projecting that nearly 38 million Americans will take a trip of 50 miles or more from home this Thanksgiving holiday weekend. That’s an increase of just 0.8 percent above last year’s total. Still, that’s a lot of people on the move in a short four-day period.

So where is everyone going?

Popular Thanksgiving vacation destinations are as varied as the dishes served up on the great American day to gorge, but according to AAA, the spots expected to see the most visitors include:

Plymouth, Massachusetts: Families looking to experience the quintessential American Thanksgiving will head to Plymouth, Massachusetts. It’s the only place in the country where you can take a trip back in time by boarding a life-size replica of the Mayflower. In addition to the hands-on educational activities, the area is home to Plimoth Plantation where you can eat, sleep, and pretend you are a real Pilgrim.

Denver, Colorado: Ski resorts in and around Denver see an influx of visitors during the Thanksgiving weekend. Many come to ski off extra helpings of turkey while others travel to the slopes to escape the chaos of Black Friday consumerism.

Orlando, Florida: Where else can you dine on turkey while shaking hands with a mouse and a duck? Hundreds of thousands of families unite at theme parks like Disney World during the Thanksgiving weekend. The kid-friendly destinations cater to visiting clans by offering extended hours, parades, and special holiday-themed meals.

New York City: There is nothing quite like traveling to the heart of the Big Apple on Turkey Day. More than 2.5 million people squeeze into the city to view the world-famous Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade with its massive balloons, fabulous floats, live bands and bevy of celebrities. What’s more, you can often score a decent deal by booking a travel package which bundles hotel accommodations, rental car and other amenities, so you’re not broke by the time Christmas rolls around.
