The holidays are almost here. Have you made your gift wish list yet? Do you want an Apple iPhone or an Nintendo Wii this year? And what will you get for the loved ones in your life?
If you need some ideas, you might want to check out the national survey that was conducted by Solutions Research. They surveyed 1,200 consumers across the country and found that 3 out of 4 Americans want a new gadget under their tree this holiday season.
What were the top picks?
1. HDTV (35%)
2. Windows-based notebook (20%)
3. Digital camera (17%)
4. Windows-based desktop computer
5. GPS car navigation
6. Cellphone
7. Digital video camera
8. Nintendo Wii
9. Sony PS3
10. HD DVD or Blu-ray player
The Apple iPhone ranked at number 15 on the list, which isn’t bad, considering that it was one of the few name-brand items specifically mentioned.
One of the issues I have with the survey is that it mixes both name brand gadgets, such as the Nintendo Wii and general products, such as “a video game system.” I think the survey should have chosen one route or the other. It seems that this approach messes up the impact of the survey. How many of those HGTV wishers wanted a Sony television? And how many of the iPhone wishers could have responded to wanting a cell phone?
Also, it wasn’t clear about the methodology used in surveying the consumers. The study is national, but how was it conducted? Were consumers only questioned online, and therefore more exposed to technology? Did they survey teenagers hanging out at the mall in front of the cell phone kiosk? Or does the survey accurately reflect the items we all wish for the holidays?
What do you think? What are your top technology wishes for this season?
