The wind is blowing, leaves are falling, and in some places there is already snow. It’s time to get busy getting ready for cooler weather and holiday dinners and guests.
These tips will help you get more organized:
Bring Blankets out of Storage
Grab all those warm comforters, extra blankets, and throws. Don’t forget the flannel sheets. Depending on how and where these items were stored, they may need to be washed. If not, shake them out and perhaps give them a little spritz of Febreze for extra freshness.
Have Your Furnace Inspected
Unless you tend to filter cleaning and other routine maintenance yourself, now is a good time to call the HVAC guy and have your furnace inspected and maintained. Call soon before they every heating and cooling company is overbooked, which generally happens with the first cold snap.
Clean Your Oven
This is a good time of year to clean your oven. Not only so you can ventilate your kitchen well before it gets too cold to do so, but also so your oven will be nice and clean when you’re ready to start baking for guests and for the holidays.
Find and Fill Bird Feeders
It’s time to break out the bird feeders if you don’t have them out year round. If you need some new ones, now is a good time to pick up a few. Check your supply of birdseed as well. Unless it has been stored in a tightly covered container, in a cool, dry, place, you may need to toss it and buy fresh seed.
Daylight Savings Time
Don’t forget… At 2:00 a.m. on October 29, it will be time for some of us (in the U.S.) to set our clocks back. Remember, it’s “spring ahead; fall back.” We always say we want another hour in our day, so take advantage of it.
