Let us get those grocery bills chopped down for good! Think of all of the uses for that extra money! Here are my favorite ways to cut your grocery food bill.
1. Use coupons. You knew that, right? When you cut and use coupons, make sure that they are for products that you really need or want. There is no sense in using a coupon for something that won’t get used. How many exotic mustards, meal kits, weird snacks or other items do you already have in your pantry not being used?
2. Clean out the pantry. Ah, do you like my transition there? Most homes have a bunch of extra food sitting in pantries, freezers and refrigerators that never see the light of day until it is time to do some spring cleaning. Make it a regular habit to see what you already have on hand before you go shopping. You might be able to create a week or two weeks worth of meals and skip the grocery bill during that time.
3. Use loss leaders. Loss leaders are items that the grocery store actually loses money on when you buy them. Why do the stores do this? it doesn’t make sense, right? Well, these great values get you into the store. The store hopes that you will also buy many other items that have higher profit margins, so the bit of loss that they take on the loss leaders is worth it. Loss leaders are generally advertised on the front page of the grocery sales flyer.
4. Shop from a list. Remember the point above about grocery stores wanting you to shop for extra things? if instead you focus on shopping from your list, you won’t overbuy, spending extra money on items that are not great deals. Stick to the list and you will naturally save money.
