Touring Asia on a Dime

Well, maybe not a single dime, but you get the idea.

If you have ever dreamed of exploring culturally rich Singapore, but could never afford to do so now is the time to fly.

Cathay Pacific Airways just announced an amazing travel package to Bangkok or Singapore. Roundtrip flights from Los Angeles and San Francisco are priced at just $926 with a free stopover in Hong Kong (add $50 if departing from New York). The offer is good for travel from September 1 to November 30, 2008, but you must book by July 31, 2008.

Note: The price is based on Monday through Thursday departures–there is a $50 surcharge for weekend travel.

Know Before You Go

Singapore is a modern, English-speaking city with world-class shopping and first-rate restaurants. It is home to the world-famous Colonial district, which features the Merlion — a mythical half-lion, half-fish beast. Singapore is also a haven for avid photographers looking to document historic architecture.

Shopoholics flock to Little India and Chinatown neighborhoods where they can score big deals on incredible merchandise. (P.S. Singapore is duty-free.) And since Singapore has an ethnically diverse population (Chinese, Malays, and Indians) dining options abound.

This particular travel deal also offers access to Bangkok where you can tour the Royal Coronation Hall. The historic area is where the kings of Siam have been crowned. Other noteworthy attractions include the Emerald Buddha Temple (Wat Phra Kaeo), which houses an amazing Buddha that is carved from a single piece of jade and is one of Thailand’s holiest objects. The capital of Thailand is a bustling city so you need to watch your step when strolling through its streets on the way to modern shopping malls.

If you go you should prepare for the region’s unpredictable weather. The monsoon season lasts from June to October, and temperatures in the fall are generally hot, usually between 80 and 90 degrees.
