I love my iPod. I carry it in my purse with me almost everywhere I go and will pull it out when I’m waiting in a long line, in a doctor’s waiting room, or anywhere else I may have to be for a long period of time. I recently received the Nike + shoes so I can now run with my iPod and track how fast and how far I’ve gone as well as how many calories I’ve burned in the process.
One of my friends recently purchased an huge 80GB iPod. He transferred all of his music off of his computer onto the iPod and downloaded a few seasons of his favorite television shows and put them on there as well, and then he immediately deleted everything off his heard drive.
Later that day he showed me his newest purchase adding, “The best part is I have tons of free space on my computer!” Unfortunately for him, that is not the case.
iPods are designed to sync data off of your computer onto your iPod, not copy files permanently. Each time you connect your iPod to your computer, your iPod copies all of the music files in iTunes and positions them in your iPod exactly the way they are in iTunes play lists and all. Since your iPod merely mirrors your computer, if you delete a song off your computer the next time you connect you iPod to your computer it will delete off of it as well. My friend could keep his music and video on his iPod, but he can never sync his iPod with his computer again and add new music without losing all of the old. Currently, iTunes is not set up to take music from your iPod and put it on your computer.
This morning in my web surfing I found a piece of software that may have fixed the problem, YamiPod. YamiPod is a program that was created by a student to transfer music from an iPod onto your computer. Several computers in fact, so you could listen to your music at work, at home, at school, where ever you are.
Have any of you had a similar problem? Would you use freeware like YamiPod?
