Travel Deals: Maine

Did you know that Maine is nicknamed the Pine Tree State because 90 percent of its land is forest? Did you also know that the state is the number one exporter of blueberries and toothpicks? And you thought Maine was only know for its lobster. So did I… until my paternal grandmother, a native of Maine, gave me a few lessons about what the state had to offer. (I knew that there is much more to appreciate than a few random facts.) Of course, there is a better way to learn more about the 23rd state… treat the family to a summer trip where you can all learn first hand what makes the state so charming. If you still aren’t convinced that Maine is the perfect destination for your next family vacation consider this travel deal that may be hard to pass up.

The Maine Stay Inn is offering a four-day, three-night stay at their property located in the seaside village of Kennebunkport. For $597 your family can enjoy lodging in one of the Maine Stay Inn’s English Country Cottage Suites, daily maid service, a full New England breakfast delivered to your door each morning in a wicker basket, tickets for a narrated tour aboard the In Town Trolley which stops at Kennebunkport’s major attractions, daily beach passes, beach chairs, towels, umbrellas and a bucket of beach toys for the kids, and complimentary afternoon teatime, which includes drinks and desserts.

Built in 1860, The Maine Stay Inn Bed and Breakfast is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is the home of a former sea captain who happened to be the grandson of one of the earliest Kennebunkport families. Captain Walker was a highly respected navigator and savvy merchant who traveled the world. His spacious home and its grand lawns now welcome guests from around the globe.

Whereas I like the idea of staying in a room that’s steeped in history, what makes this package deal even more attractive is the Inn’s proximity to other family-friendly activities. For example, I could whale watch, tour the state’s famed lighthouses and rocky coasts, swim in the Atlantic, explore tidal pools, or spend the day walking along the beach without having to drive for hours to do so. (I rather save the driving for a trip to the restaurant that offers the best deal on lobster.)
