Would you believe a pink plane? October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and in honor of the occasion the world is thinking pink. From cosmetics to clothing, kitchen appliances to travel accessories, the color pink (the color chosen to symbolize awareness of the disease) is everywhere. Even on a commercial airliner.
It’s not a mistake, and you’re not dreaming… that really is a pink Delta Boeing 757 (click here to see photo of pink plane). In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Delta says it’s “introducing a newly painted Delta Pink Plane to its fleet to raise awareness for the cause and for its partner, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). … Instead of Delta’s traditional red, white and blue livery, this Boeing 757 will feature a specially designed new livery in multiple shades of pink and white. Delta’s brightly colored pink aircraft will also feature BCRF’s trademark pink ribbon logo, adjacent to the boarding door, as a visible reminder to passengers that they are flying on Delta’s Pink Plane.” Delta unveiled the plane a few days ago in Atlanta, and says that it will take flight to “visit a variety of markets the airline serves nationwide.” In addition, throughout October, Delta plans to offer pink lemonade to customers for $2 on all domestic and most international flights with 100% of the proceeds benefiting BCRF.
But, the effort to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness doesn’t stop there (although a pink airliner is hard to top)… the hotel industry is getting in on the act too. More than two-dozen big-name fashion designers, including Betsey Johnson, Michael Kors, Diane von Furstenberg, Gwen Stefani, and Narciso Rodriguez are lending a hand to the cause by creating unique hotel robe for W Hotels.
Each designer has put his or her own spin on the basic hotel robe. Unfortunately, their eclectic creations won’t be hanging in the closet when you check in, but they’ll be on display at various W Hotels around the country, before being auctioned on eBay from October 23rd through November 2nd. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s “Fashion Targets Breast Cancer” initiative, which helps women who have the disease. In addition, a special W robe with the Fashion Targets Breast Cancer logo will go on sale at whotels.com for $125, with 25% going to the charity.
