AIRLINE TICKETS FOR $10
It’s no joke—-Skybus Airlines is currently offering tickets for 10 bucks.
So… what’s the catch? (Yes, there’s always a catch.)
Catch #1–Even if you purchase your $10 tickets now you won’t be able to use them until December. That’s when the carrier begins service from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Right now, the rock-bottom price is being offered on flights from Milwaukee to Columbus, Ohio, which some of you travelers already know is Skybus Airlines’ hub. From there the airline is offering additional deals (many require purchasing a second ticket) to other cities Skybus flies to, including sunny locales in Florida and California.
Catch #2—-Skybus is able to offer the unbelievably low rates because it charges additional fees for other services. For example, if you want to check a suitcase, you’ll have to shell out an additional $5 per bag. Also, if you become parched mid-flight you better hope you have some cash in your wallet. The airline does not allow you to bring water on board. Beverages, including water will cost you $2. The airline has also banned all food items (that goes for snacks too). The airline doesn’t want you to starve, it just wants you to buy its food… for a price. Also, if you want to secure the seat of your choice you’ll have to cough up another $10 to enroll in the airlines’ priority seating program.
Catch#3—Tickets are only available online. There is no reservations call center, which means there is no one to question or complain to if a problem should arise prior to getting to the airport and making human contact with a Skybus employee behind the counter.
Nevertheless, I know a few friends who are planning to take Skybus up on its offer (one of them is originally from Columbus so I don’t count him). I can’t blame them. After all, you can’t even take a taxi from Milwaukee’s airport to the city’s downtown area for $10. For 10 bucks I know some people who would fly to Columbus, have dinner, see a show and fly right back.
