Travel Tidbits For Adventurous Families

Are you a fan of the reality show “The Amazing Race?” Are your children? If you family is comprised of a bunch of competitive adventure-seeking daredevils I have the ultimate challenge for you.

Hyatt Resorts has a new contest open to families with kids aged 9 to 12. It’s called the “Ultimate Adventure Challenge” and the winner earns 50 free nights at Hyatts worldwide.

Fifty FREE nights at any Hyatt!!! (Yes, I know!)

Here’s how you sign up to win this dream vacation:

You must create a 90-second video that illustrates your family’s passion for travel and adventure. The video must also explain why you should be chosen as the winner.

Hyatt will then choose 20 families from all the applicants and fly them to a U.S. city for a casting call on June 16th. The 20 families will then be narrowed down to five families. Each of the five finalists will be given a free two-week vacation at three Hyatt properties, where they’ll compete in activities such as hula dancing or hot air ballooning. The winner will then be decided “American Idol” style–by those who register for online viewing of the competition that will be broadcast on the Internet in August. For more details on the contest click here.

The entry deadline is May 30th so get those creative juices flowing and start taping.

A note to all of you couch potato families (or families without children aged 9 to 12)—you can win too. One family that signs up to watch the competition online will be randomly selected to win 50 free nights at Hyatt properties, too.

So, there’s still hope for me.

If the idea of making a video doesn’t interest you, but the idea of making money does—I have good news for you.

If you have children that love to catch critters you could soon be rolling in dough… or at least in cockroaches.

The Houston Museum of Natural Science is paying cash for live cockroaches. It’s no joke. The museum plans to stock a new exhibit with the creepy crawlers… and they need your help.

The museum is offering 25 cents per bug. Museum curators say the center needs to secure 1,000 live cockroaches to populate its new insect display.

Talk about a great way for kids to earn money. (F.Y.I. insect experts contend that roaches are as clean as the area where they live.)

The museum will begin accepting the roaches on May 8th. After it has purchased 1,000 cockroaches, anyone else offering the insects will get a free pass to the museum.
