I admit I was a die-hard Princess Diana fan. My mom woke me up at 2 a.m. Hawaii time to watch her fairy tale wedding to Prince Charles. I used my allowance to buy special editions of PEOPLE magazine whenever she was on the cover and I went gaga when her boys were born.
So when it was announced that a dozens of Diana’s gowns were going to be displayed at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa in Florida, for a split second I considered making the trip (then reality hit and I remembered that I can barely afford a tank of gas let alone a plane ticket to the Sunshine State).
If you are a Diana fan and plan to be in the Tampa area this week or next you might consider heading to the Hard Rock Hotel to get an up close and personal look at 12 dresses worn by the late British fashion icon, including the pink number designed by Catherine Walker that Diana wore to meet with Mother Teresa in India.
The gowns will be on display at the hotel until May 2. Admission to the event is $10 and all proceeds will go to charity.
Take note: the gowns will move to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, May 5-11. The same day the gowns arrive at the Hard Rock a member of rock’s royalty Eric Clapton will be performing at the casino.
VIP tickets to his concert will cost you considerably more than touring Diana’s dresses. For $5,000 you can get two tickets to Clapton’s concert and a night’s stay at a deluxe room in the hotel.
HAPPY HYBRIDS
These days driving a hybrid can pay off in more ways than one. Not only are you helping your family’s bottom line and preserving the environment for the next generation, but you can also score a prime parking space at some hotels.
Just in time for Earth Week Starwood is launching its new Element extended-stay hotels in Lexington, Massachusetts. Lodging execs are billing it as the “first green hotel brand of its kind.”
For starters all of the hotel’s buildings are made of eco-friendly materials, including roofs that reflect heat, organic paint and carpeting, energy-efficient appliances and more.
In addition, hybrid cars get preferred parking and guests will be given water in refillable “water vessels” (instead of plastic bottles) and reusable laundry bags.
