Traveling With Your Baby This Weekend

Perhaps you’re taking a road trip to celebrate Memorial Day Weekend or going somewhere out of the ordinary? Traveling with a baby can be tricky and maybe you’re thinking that you can’t quite figure out how that’s going to work. The trick is to plan ahead and around baby’s schedule as much as possible!

Be Prepared

You can never have too many snacks when you’re traveling with an infant. Along with that, you can never have too many wipes or too many toys. Simply bringing more than enough things to keep the baby entertained as well as keep the baby fed–is a smart idea. If you’re traveling far this weekend, remember to bring something to play with outside while your baby stretches her legs. (Assuming that she’s walking along.)

On a side note, you certainly hope that you don’t have a break down or car issue. But it doesn’t hurt to have an “emergency pack” in the car that has plenty of water and some extra food just for that purpose. Being stuck for hours on end with a hungry and thirsty baby will make everyone more miserable.

Plan Your Trip

If you plan to spend a couple hours in the car, then you’ll want to ideally time your trip around nap time. Most babies fall asleep easily in the car. So you’ll want to consider starting your trip right around nap time so that when you get there, baby will be fresh and ready to play.

On the other hand, if you’re going a little farther away, you may want to head out a little earlier, counting on the fact that she’ll go to sleep. Then plan to have her awake at a meal when you’re stopping and maybe spend some time playing. The point is, think carefully through what you’re doing because no one wants to arrive at the fun and festivities with a grumpy baby that doesn’t want to do anything!
