Who says pet owners are the only ones with discriminating taste? You’ve heard of hotels catering to gourmet travelers, but what happens when those foodies want to bring Fido and Fifi along for the ride?
Thanks to clever marketing managers an increasing number of hotels throughout North America and Europe have created in-house gourmet menus fit for a royal pet.
For example, if you are traveling with your favorite shaggy friend to Arizona you might consider staying at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa in Phoenix where for $11 Fifi can feast on Zen, a hearty vegetable stir-fry with poached eggs and steamed brown rice that’s designed to help pets adjust to jet lag.
In California the Los Angeles’ Hyatt Regency Century Plaza offers an organic Buddy Burger (hamburger with cheese) for your hungry hairy pal. Meanwhile, pooches visiting the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa can choose from an in-room dining service doggie menu featuring cooked-to-order items, including chicken liver pâté and braised New Zealand lamb served on a bed of rice.
Hotel managers offering these culinary masterpieces for their four-legged guests say the idea has been a hit. In fact, just a few months ago the Wyndham Orange County in Costa Mesa, California unleashed its Paws and Claws breakfast, held every weekend on the hotel’s lakeside patio and it is already one of the properties most popular programs. For $15.50 human guests can enjoy the buffet and for no additional charge they can share their food with their pooches, who eat off pet china. There’s even a “Bubbles and Bones” Champagne bar that features unlimited Champagne for adults, and wine-shaped bottles of “Sauvignon Bark,” “Barkundy” or “Pinot Leasheo,” for pups. According to hotel managers, the bottles contain alcohol-free au jus made with chicken or beef stock that can be poured over your dog’s meal.
