Traveling with Your Pet: Fabulous Food Finds Part 3

If you thought lodgings in North America were bending over backwards to cater to Fido and Fifi wait until you learn what international hotels are doing to win over the likes of Snoopy and Sugar (and their respective owners).

Pampered pets are prized guests at Los Cabos, Mexico’s Las Ventanas al Paraíso, a Rosewood Resort. The upscale property offers menu selections including the Rin Tin Tin (braised beef short ribs with farro risotto and gravy for $19), a “Ruff” con Pollo (chicken breast with rice and tomato, $19), The Claw Cleaner (albacore tuna, chopped egg and sour cream, $4) and Tomcat’s Favorite (a selection of seafood, $3.50).

And lest you think that the specialty menu choices are reserved for celebrity clients, think again. Managers at the Las Ventanas al Paraíso say the pet menus are for any animal lover who wants to give their four legged friends a taste of the good life. The upscale menu choices are not only delicious, but are also very healthy, according to hotel chefs, who are in charge of creating the pet-friendly dishes.

If you have plans to bring your bulldog Baxter on your next trip to Spain consider staying at the ME Madrid in Spain. The luxurious lodging offers a pet menu that includes Laika’s vegetable risotto ($25), Rex’s filet mignon ($39) and suckling pig with couscous ($32).

And if money is no object consider celebrating your pooches birthday with a turkey birthday cake ($62) at the Hilton Molino Stucky in Venice, Italy. For feline travel companions the Rome Cavalieri Hilton offers pâté of tuna fish and sardines ($22) and soup with rice, vegetables and meat ($23), which are all served on Gucci dishware.

The gourmet dishes may sound pricey to some, but hotel managers insist that even in tough economic times, people’s pets come first. Some say their human guests admit to cutting back on services for themselves just so they can pamper their pets and give them the best life has to offer.

Are you one of them?
