Trusting the Lord

One of the most difficult things to do is to trust in the Lord. I find this especially difficult because I also feel that I should try to do all that I can to help things to change. Sometimes we need to do something to work towards the answers. However there are times, when no matter what we do, we do not have the ability to help our prayers be answered.

These times are when it takes the most trust in the Lord. When I experience a time like this in my life, I find that I am praying much more often. It is often difficult for me to find peace and it is difficult to sit still and wait for the results to happen. However, I know that is because I am failing to put my total trust in the Lord.

I have had numerous experiences in my life when things have fallen into place perfectly, after I have prayed and waited for the Lord to help me through difficult situations. I know that He does not leave us alone during our times of struggle and worry. Yet it can be difficult for me to really set the matter aside and stop worrying about it.

When I notice that I am doing this, it helps me to take a day to fast and pray about the problem. Although I will continue to pray for a solution to the problem, I also begin to pray that I may have peace regarding the matter. Usually it is just a matter of days before I find the peace. Sometimes the solution takes much longer than this. Reading the scriptures also helps me during this time, the story of Job can be especially comforting as well as Doctrine and Covenants 122. What do you do to help yourself trust the Lord?
