Try a Food Storage Potluck!

One great way to find new ways to utilize your food storage is to have a food storage potluck. This may be a little more difficult, if you do not have any friends that have and use food storage, but you can still try to have one anyway. The point of your potluck should be to try new dishes that use food storage, and to gather recipes together. If this goes successfully you may try to have a potluck once every few months, so you can continue to gather new recipes. Here are five tips for a successful potluck:

1) Invite a large group of at least five different families, and instruct them to bring enough food to feed their family. This insures that you will have enough food at the potluck, and that no one will leave hungry. It may be more effective to have a couple’s only potluck.

2) Clearly state the purpose of the potluck: to use items in your food storage. If your friends do not have food storage, you may ask them to bring made from scratch items. This would allow you to incorporate the items into your food storage.

3) You may want to have theme nights. A good theme would be a Mexican Fiesta, or an Italian night. I would not recommend a wheat night theme or a bean night theme. You may regret this type of theme the next day.

4) Be sure that everyone brings the recipes to be shared. You may want to have your friends email you the recipes in advance, and then make up a handout for everyone at the party.

5) You may want to assign different types of dishes to people, or have them sign up. This way you will have a dessert, appetizer, main course, and side dishes. Or you may ask people to bring a main dish, and then a side or dessert.

Remember that this is a fun event. You can play games at some point in the evening, or just spend the night enjoying each other’s company. If it goes well, you may want to set up a rotating event, where each family or couple takes turns hosting it.
