Tae Bo is a cardio kickboxing workout that really took off in the 90s. The founder, Billy Blanks, takes you through cardio workouts consisting of punches, kicks, and other kickboxing inspired moves.
As a teenager in the 90s I would do the workout tapes a couple times a week. Later on I upgraded to DVDs and the workouts got harder. Most workouts are thirty to sixty minutes, and there are also some shorter power workouts. More recent additions to the collection include a boot camp workout, abs workout, and a cardio sculpting workout. the workouts include a warm-up to get your heart pumping and a cool-down with stretching.
Although I don’t do Tae Bo very often with the other exercise routines I like, I still find it a good to switch up my routine a little. Sometimes we get in the habit of doing a repetitive workout program each week, doing the same exercises over and over. Although it is great to find an activity you like to do often, it can also help to change things up and add variation. For me that is doing a Tae Bo workout every couple weeks.
Tae Bo and other workout videos are good when you need a low-maintenance, do at home cardio workout. When you are busy taking care of your kids or going to work or school, it can become a pain to go workout away from your home. Sometimes all you need is a half hour to put in a DVD and get your heart pumping. So dust off those old DVDs and put them in for a switch in your usual routine!
Quick Tips
Borrow the DVD from the library to see if you like it before buying it.
Have water on hand, you will need it!
If you don’t like the music on the DVD, turn up your own tunes as you follow along with the workout.
