When you’re trying to lose weight, one of the worst things you can do is to let your refrigerator go bare.
We’ve all been there—you start a diet, stock your fridge and pantry with whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. You’re set. You’re on a roll. You’re—out of food? Yep. Somewhere around mid-week, you might find your stash of “good for you” food is depleted and the only things left in your refrigerator are those not-so-good-for-you foods you meant to throw out but just didn’t get around to.
When you’re committed to losing weight, your house has to be committed too. That means keeping fresh foods within reach at all times, even if it means a mid-week trek to the supermarket. Without this commitment, it’s likely only a matter of time before your hand slips from the carrots sticks to the chocolate chip cookies, from the apple slices to the crackers, etc.
So what should you stock up on? That all depends on the weight-loss plan you’re following. The important thing is not to buy anything you absolutely don’t like to eat. This is because after the initial “diet high,” those first few days or so during which your determination is at an all time high, your willpower may wane. When this happens, you need to have foods around to prepare or snack on that will bring you some satisfaction rather than making you want to gag.
Understand that losing weight will mean incorporating different foods in to your life. If you want to be healthier, and if you want to lose weight, stock up on items that will ensure your success rather than ensuring your failure. Try it. Within a few weeks, it will become a habit and your body and your heart will thank you for it.
