Turkey Table Topper

Want to make a turkey table topper? You can make a large one to add to a table-scape or centerpiece, or you can make smaller ones to use beside each place setting.

*Adult supervision and assistance is required for this project.

Let’s get started!

Items you will need:

  • Styrofoam balls (one larger and two smaller)
  • Toothpicks
  • Craft sticks (Popsicle stick size)
  • String or yarn
  • Glue
  • Feathers
  • Felt
  • Red balloons
  • Googly eyes

*The items listed above will make two turkeys.

What you need to do:

Start by having a grown up cut the large Styrofoam ball in half. Cover it with brown felt, gluing in place. Make sure the ends of the felt wrap all the way around and glue the ends to the bottom of the Styrofoam ball half.

Cover a small Styrofoam ball with brown felt and tie a string tightly at the bottom to hold the felt in place (you can add a little glue on the ball to help secure it).

Have a grown up help you poke toothpicks through the felt and into the ball, leaving about 1” of each toothpick sticking out.

Carefully push the small ball onto the toothpicks to make the turkeys head. The excess felt below the string will hide the toothpicks.

Glue on googly eyes then take a red balloon (not blown up) and tie a knot in the end. Glue this below the eyes to make the turkey’s wattle.

*Take care with balloons around small children as they can be a choking hazard.

An adult can make small slits in the felt that covers the turkey’s body so that you can poke craft sticks through into the Styrofoam. Glue feathers onto each craft stick.

Follow these directions to make another turkey using the other half of the large Styrofoam ball and the other small ball or save these items for another project.
