Most of us have eaten ravioli, but have you ever had it the Turkish way? It’s called Manti and it’s delicious. The sauce may seem a bit strange if you’ve never tried it, but I urge you to give it a try. You’ll discover an entirely new treat that will become your new favorite comfort food.
In Turkey they make the ravioli homemade. If you have the time and the know-how, go for it. Otherwise, here’s my semi-homemade twist that’ll have you at the table in no time!
Ingredients:
1.Store bought ravioli – your favorite kind and brand is fine (frozen, fresh, cheese filled, meat filled, etc.) If you’re feeding a family of 4 you’ll want to look for the Family Size package.
2.2 Cups Plain Yogurt (whole fat or low fat works fine)
3.2 garlic cloves minced VERY finely OR 1-2 tsp. garlic powder
4.1 stick butter or margarine
5.1 TB tomato paste
6.½-1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
To Make:
1.Cook ravioli according to directions on package.
2.In the meantime, in a small mixing bowl, combine yogurt and garlic or garlic powder. Stir well.
3.Just before serving, in a small saucepan, combine butter, red pepper flakes, and tomato paste. Cook until melted and bubbly.
To Assemble:
On each plate, place desired amount of drained ravioli. Top generously with yogurt mixture then top yogurt mixture with butter mixture. Enjoy immediately. Afiyet Olsun! (Turkish for “Enjoy the meal!”)
