TV News: Late Night Laughfest Continues and Grammy Winner Gets Soapy

Oh Jimmy, Jimmy. It looks like we’ll be seeing a lot more of Jimmy Fallon in the near future. Word has it that the former “Saturday Night Live” regular just signed a deal with NBC to take over for Conan O’Brien when he succeeds Jay Leno next year.

For months the buzz surrounding Fallon’s move to the “Late Night” chair has been growing louder. Now, finally, it appears the brass at NBC is preparing to make an official announcement about the deal.

A few days ago The Hollywood Reporter and Variety both published articles that said the network execs would announce their choice of late night host within the next few weeks, possibly at their May 12 presentation for advertisers. NBC bigwigs declined to comment on the stories, but insiders confirmed that an announcement regarding Fallon would be made before the end of May.

If the rumors are true the 33-year-old comedian would take over sometime next year as host of the 12:30 a.m. talk show. Meanwhile, O’Brien will move into Jay Leno’s digs on NBC’s “Tonight” show, which airs at 11:30 p.m. each weeknight. O’Brien’s new job was announced by NBC back in 2004.

GRAMMY WINNER GETS SOAPY

Things in Pine Valley are about to get even steamier.

Singer/songwriter Ne-Yo is scheduled to perform his songs “Closer” and “Stop This World” during a guest stint on the daytime drama “All My Children” May 21 and May 22.

The sexy singer will make his daytime debut during the ABC soap’s long anticipated second wedding of Angie and Jesse Hubbard (the legendary supercouple played by actors Debbi Morgan and Darnell Williams).

However, Ne-Yo, whose real name is Shaffer C. Smith, won’t steal the show for long. “All My Children” producers revealed that following the Grammy winner’s performance at the reception, the bride will be kidnapped and taken away on a helicopter.

I should have known Angie and Jessie’s happiness would be short lived. They just recently reunited after a 20-year absence following Jesse’s presumed death. Couldn’t the writers let them share in at least one day of marital bliss before splitting them up?
