You know you’ve hit the big time when you are asked to make a cameo on Fox network’s “The Simpsons.”
At least that’s the general consensus among most of Hollywood’s elite. But, apparently, some outside the industry do not share the sentiment. Namely, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown. According to news reports, the political powerhouse has turned down an invitation to visit Bart, Homer and Lisa in Springfield.
Critics say the TV appearance would have helped shake the prime minister’s dour image, but alas, Brown decided against following in his predecessor Tony Blair’s footsteps and will not share a donut with the dysfunctional animated family.
Brown may have said no to “The Simpsons,” but there is nary a star out there who would opt out of a guest spot on Oprah Winfrey’s talk show.
Not only do A-list celebs clamor to sit next to the divine Miss O, they are willing take part in wild adventures to do so. Just ask two-time Academy Award winner Hilary Swank. The multi-talented actress allowed the legendary talk show host to chop off her locks in front of millions as part of her upcoming appearance on Winfrey’s show.
According to show producers, Winfrey reportedly sheared 9-inches off Swank’s head as a part of a charity effort. On Friday’s show you will get to see how it all went down. You’ll also learn more about the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program–an initiative dedicated to supporting and encouraging women who have lost their hair during cancer treatment. It’s a cause Swank says she is committed to helping.
“I’ve been growing it for the last six months to donate my hair,” Swank tells the talk show queen on the upcoming show. “I’ve been taking a lot of vitamins and taking really good care of it, knowing that it would go to a woman in need.”
To see Swank’s new do (courtesy of Oprah’s first few snips) you’ll have to tune into Friday’s show. But, judging from the video clips airing on Winfrey’s website, Swank did not leave the studio with much hair to style. Swank’s shearing is part of Oprah’s Great American Haircut show, which gives 100 viewers 100 makeovers in less than an hour.
