My wife and I recently took our son to a farmer’s market. It is often in these public situations that we really see our child shine. His personality seems to escape more easily from his body for some reason. We’d already kind of decided that he was a very sociable person but this trip only confirmed that even more. He’s a happy child and he enjoys other people. It was also really nice for my wife and I to get outdoors for an extended period of time with our son. The farmer’s market provided an interesting enough location with the variety of sights and sounds to entertain and hold his attention. Since we were basically up with the sun to get there before the rush we needed breakfast.
We walked the long length of the market looking for coffee. For better or for worse my wife and I drink coffee and the early morning left us feeling the tug to drink a cup. It was only increased as we walked past vendors selling doughnuts, pastries, and other wonderful smelling goodies. I’m not sure what our son was thinking during this time but he was happily looking at the people passing by and the shops selling colorful wares. At the very end of the event before the streets reopened for traffic we not coffee but eggs and sausage and cheese and peppers. Our son really enjoyed this treat. We pulled him out of his stroller to eat the eggs and he really enjoyed them. On our walk back towards the center found us the coffee we were looking for. We heard a couple of great bands and solo musicians. Our son showed his approval by dancing to the music excitedly. He spent some time up on our shoulders and some time down in his stroller. By the time it was all said and done he was crabby and a little unhappy. Luckily, we were feeling that way too. So we said goodbye to the farmer’s market and headed back home. We’ll be coming again though. Now we know where to get coffee, good eggs, some nice pastries and we might even stop to listen to the music. Sometimes you just have to go twice!
