At 62 years old, General Larry Platt shuffled into the American Idol audition, as the last “contestant” for the day, obviously too old to be in the competition. I was afraid he was there to make fun of him. There was definitely some fun had, but the General had the joke on us, or at least on our teenagers.
He sung and performed an original song called “pants off the ground”. Wanna hear it? Here it goes:
Pants on the ground
Pants on the ground
Lookin’ like a fool with your pants on the ground
With the gold in your mouth
Hat turned sideways
Pants hit the ground
Call yourself a cool cat
Lookin’ like a fool
Walkin’ downtown with your pants on the ground
Get it up, hey!
Get your pants off the ground
Lookin’ like a fool
Walkin’ talkin’ with your pants on the ground.
Get it up, hey!
Get your pants off the ground
Lookin’ like a fool with your pants on the ground
Someone should make this guy a record deal, or perhaps pay him to record this song. In the meantime, find a clip of the video and send it to your kids.
Seriously though, the performance was great fun, and the tune was quite catchy. He had the Idol judges promising to purchase belts. Considering that teenagers have been wearing their pants on the ground for at least 20 years, don’t you think it’s time for a new “style”. Fortunately, for me, this is not a problem in my home. Belts are mandatory.
In a story that is only slightly related, and hardly funny, A New Jersey girl had her pants yanked down by a boy in her middle school. The mother has been charged with disorderly conduct for cursing out the principal who wanted to know if the girl had been wearing thong underwear. (He needed to know how much of her body was exposed.) They would have had to charge me with assault.
