Even though I have two home-based businesses of my own, I am always curious about what other kinds of work people can do from home. I often look around online to see what types of work people are doing that I may not have heard of or thought about. For example, I was looking at a list of home based business opportunities, and I realized that I had never thought that someone could run a bicycle repair business from their home – but why not? I probably never thought of it because I do not own a bicycle, but there are many people that own bicycles and sometimes it is not always convenient to take your bicycle to a bike shop for repair. Bicycles can also be customized, and someone who is a bicycle enthusiast can help others with that as part of their repair business.
If you have been in the same career for quite a few years, you have a wealth of information from your years of experience. As these you near retirement, you may want to think about putting all of that knowledge to use as a consultant if you would not like to stop working once you retire. Consultants can take on as much or as little work as they want, so you can create a schedule that allows you to do all of the things that you look forward to doing when you retire. For example, I know someone who spent over forty years working for the same company. He now consults for that company, and during the warmer months he keeps a lighter work schedule so that he can golf in a couple of leagues and do some traveling. This same person also uses his years of experience and knowledge as an expert witness from time to time. If you have a great deal of knowledge or experience, it is possible that you could also work as an expert witness.
These are just two of the many diverse ways that people are making a living working from home. If you would like to work from home, there’s a good chance that with some careful planning and preparation you could become one of the many people that are taking their work home with them – for good.
