Whenever I hear of a young mom with a child under two years old and who happens to be pregnant I hear, “she will have two in diapers!” The comments about having two in diapers seem never ending. The pressure for a mom to potty train one child before having a baby so she can avoid the atrocity of having two in diapers is intense. I remember when I was pregnant with my second, I heard all the time how I difficult it would be to have two in diapers. When I was pregnant with my fourth, I would hear how lucky I was that I would not have two in diapers. I mean two in diapers, can you imagine?
Perhaps it is the former daycare provider in me but I never understood what was so terrible about having two in diapers. Look, I don’t like changing diapers any more than anyone else. I can’t stand paying for them almost as much. But I don’t see the big deal. I am more then happy to have two in diapers if it means I have two little blessings to care for. Even less then that, it just doesn’t bother me. What is the big fat hairy deal?
If you are pregnant and feel the pressure to potty train one child before your baby is born; relax. It is okay. I recommend doing what is best for your family. If you feel it will make things easier to potty train before baby arrives then go for it. If you are too tired or sick to be consistent, then do not feel guilty about waiting. Fighting with a toddler may be the last thing you need right now. Two in diapers is not the worst thing in the world. Enjoy your babies and take care of yourself.
