We have an unofficial saying in our home, “If life gets overwhelming, just add something else to the mix.” Okay, so this really isn’t our saying, but it should be, since that is what we usually wind up doing!
The last few weeks have been very busy. In addition to our normal activities, one of my children is called to rehearsal for a musical four to six days each week. Work has picked up a little bit for me as well as some new responsibilities at church. Needless to say, the house and car look like they have both been turned over a few times by a giant and then set back into place.
Why is it that homes seem to fall apart unless you are keeping up with them every minute?
To this chaos we added two new additions to or family, a pair of kitty cats. We had been tossing the idea around for about six months now, and then finally the rest of the family wore me down. My husband was my partner in crime against getting new pets for the longest time. We agreed we weren’t ready. We agreed it was too much work. It was us against the kids. Until, we saw these two particular cats. Then it was them against me.
Don’t get me wrong, the kitties are so cute. They are well-behaved and affectionate. They look out for each other and constantly entertain us, and they are probably the best two cats I have ever come across (previous and now deceased cat the exception). They also need to be fed, have their litter box cleaned a couple of times a day, need scheduled vet visits, etc. The cat hair needs to be vacuumed. The mostly white cat likes to sit in the black upholstered chair, and the black cat loves the white comforter. They are mocking me, I tell you.
It really is like having two extra kids to comfort me in my old age, now that my youngest is officially registered for kindergarten. For example, the cats follow me into the bathroom or whine and paw at the bathroom door whenever I have to go. They also have seemed to identify me as the go-to-gal, constantly rubbing against me, purring and giving kisses as if they know it is a smart idea to win me over.
