Do you remember the time when you first set up your child’s nursery? I bet the crib bedding was just right, the matching rug was centered, the cute toys waited on shelves, and the room emitted a sense of peace.
Well fast forward a couple of years later, and you now find the room in complete chaos, with toys scattered all over the floor, a jumble of stuffed animals and books on the bed, and learning toys that force you to “learn” how to find all of the missing pieces. At least, that is how it went down in my house when my first child entered the toddler years.
There are a couple of tricks to help you organize your toddler’s room.
The first trick is to edit the toys. less toys mean less mess and easy organization. Oh sure, it can be heartbreaking to get rid of Mister Fuzzy Bear because even through your child basically ignores it, you associate the toy with the early month’s of your child’s life. But if you kept every Mister Fuzzy Beart that came along, you would need a new house just for your memories. Try taking a photo of the toy and scrapbooking it, or if you must, box it up and store it in the attic.
The second trick is to get all of the toys and books off of the floor. Not only will this give you an instant sense of organization, but it will give your child more room to play and less chance of tripping over something. Forget the boxes and bins that hang around the outside edges of the room or come tumbling out of the closet. Invest in a compartmentalized bookshelf or hanging shelves to life everything up and away.
With these two little tricks, you’ll have the room looking better in no time.
