I’m an all-in-one kind of gal. When it comes to
diapers, I’m all about no fuss, no muss, and dead simple. The dead simple part is particularly attractive, because when I am sleep-deprived, nothing, not even a diaper, seems to compute.
What is an all in one diaper? These cloth diapers are as simple as a disposable. They come with an outer part, which may have a nylon or polyester shell. The shell is for waterproofing so that the diaper does not leak when you’re out on a trip or when you just can’t change the diaper for a while. If you choose a cloth diaper without a shell, this makes the diaper more breathable, and it’s better for elimination communication. However, the outside will get damp more easily and you’ll need to change more often.
The diaper also comes with an inner liner flap. Often, you can add more liners if you need to use the diaper for night time or if your child tends to be a bit epic in the pee department.
To me, the best feature of the all in one diaper is the fact that they often have convenient snaps or Velcro connectors, making them quite similar to the design of a disposable. Watch the snaps over time to ensure that they don’t separate from the fabric. Velcro needs to be cleaned occasionally with a comb or with your fingers to remove any fluff so that the Velcro continues to connect.
All in one diapers come in individual sizes for newborns to toddlers, and they also come in graduated sizing with several size options on the same diaper. All in one diapers are convenient, so they tend to be a bit more expensive than other cloth diapers. However, they are very useful for busy parents who want to use cloth but don’t want to fold a diaper.
Like many cloth diapers these days, all in ones come in plain, organic, or with fancy outer covers that have been hand-sewn or dyed. These diapers are as plain or as involved as you want them to be!
