With prices like these even the locals might be tempted to go cruising around the islands. I was born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii and spent my childhood watching cruise ships float past my home. And if I still lived there I would absolutely consider taking advantage of the following deal.
Right now Norwegian Cruise Line is offering a seven-night cruise, including all meals and port charges, from $599 for select departure dates between November 26 and December 31, 2007. That breaks down to just about $86 per night for accommodations and meals. And considering a comparable seven-night cruise around the Hawaiian Islands will typically run you about $1100, this deal is phenomenal.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
The Vessel. The ship’s name is The Pride Of Hawaii and it features 1,233 staterooms, 12 restaurants, pools, shops, a library, and a video arcade.
The Trip. The cruise departs from Honolulu. From there you’ll sail to Hilo, on the Big Island, and then spend two days on Maui, followed by a day in Kona, back on the Big Island. The last part of the voyage brings you to Port Allen on Kauai for two days before you return to Honolulu
The Details. You’re free to purchase shore excursions at an additional cost directly from Norwegian Cruise Line. One of the most popular is a daylong excursion to Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island for $49 per person.
The Catch. Airfare is not included in the package price. Also, the $599 price is based on an interior cabin, but upgrades are available for an additional fee. Meals, 24-hour room service, and nonalcoholic drinks like water, coffee, juices, and tea are included. Port charges are included, but government taxes are an additional $42.20 per person. And a note to solo travelers, you’ll have to pay twice the cost of the rate for whichever date you pick.
