When did you know it was time to start or add to your family?
Did you have a master plan in regards to becoming a parent or did you leave it up to fate?
Many people factor in finances, emotional and physical health, as well as age before opting to procreate. It is very rare that something as obscure as a major construction project would play into baby-making. However, if you believe the media you might think twice about that theory. According to the several news sources, a “Carmageddon” baby boom may be taking place in Los Angeles right now.
Remember the hype surrounding “Carmegeddon,” the highway construction project that shut down the busy 405 Freeway in Los Angeles for an entire weekend? It was supposedly going to put the brakes on survival as we knew it.
Well, it turns out that the world didn’t end that fateful weekend last July.
On the contrary, it appears the bridge repairs, which forced the shutdown of a 10-mile stretch of one of the busiest freeways in the world, brought forth life rather than birthing an automotive apocalypse.
According to reports, nine months after “Carmageddon,” Los Angeles is experiencing a mini baby boom.
Following a litany of warning to residents to stay home and off the roads, we now know how couples spent their time.
Doctors at Providence Medical Center in Tarzana, not far from the 405 tell news reporters that they typically deliver eight to ten babies a month. However, in the last two weeks nearly a dozen newborns have made their debut at the hospital. In fact, last week there were five babies born at the medical center in a 30-minute span.
While Los Angeles statisticians say it is far too early to credit “Carmageddon” with the population explosion, some say it is not out of the question. After all, New York City’s blackout in 1965 produced a slew of babies who may not have otherwise seen the light of day.
Interestingly, the 405 is being shut down again for more repairs later this year.
Could more couples soon join the ranks of parenthood as a result?
