Unique Memory Albums

I’m hooked on chipboard scrapbooks.

Not chipboard embellishments; I am head over heels in awe of chipboard memory albums whose pages spell out words, such as “Mother,” “Love,” “Family,” “Vacation,” or “Sister.”

I rarely stray from crafting anything but traditional albums. Typically, my focus is on squeezing as many photos on a single layout as possible, so using a standard 12×12 page works best for me. However, after seeing how many mini images I could fit on a page from a chipboard scrapbook, I am obsessed.

Granted, when creating page designs in a chipboard scrapbook, you have to be a bit creative when it comes to positioning photos, memorabilia and embellishments, but once you get a few pages under your belt, it’s not as challenging as you might think.

Another issue to consider before jumping on the chipboard scrapbook bandwagon is supply. You won’t be able to find as many different chipboard albums as you would traditional ones. However, I’ve had great success with Accent Scrapbooking which sells a variety of chipboard word albums. The company specializes in theme books, which is where I was able to find albums in the shape of words, such as: “Winter,” “Summer,” “Faith,” and “Baby.” In addition, Scrapbook.com also carries an array of chipboard albums in fun shapes like flowers, stars, hearts, circles and clouds.

If you plan on making a chipboard scrapbook you might want to use the same product line throughout the album. Since the book is so small it’s nice to have a sense of visual continuity. Also, as I mentioned earlier, you will need to reduce the size of your photos if you want to add a bunch to the pages. Otherwise, you will simply need to select your very favorite images since the size of the book limits the amount of photos you can include.
