Up Late!

Shhhh… It’s after midnight, and I have the whole house all to myself. The kids are sound asleep and even my husband has gone to bed, which he usually never does before I do. In fact, it is so quiet that I hate to break the silence even with the light tapping sound made by the keys as I type.

It’s rare that my home is this still, since there are six of us here and we all tend to be very active, but it’s really nice. There’s just something comforting about knowing everyone is sound asleep, cozy and comfy in their beds as I soak up the silence of the pre-dawn hours.

Do you ever stay up late to enjoy a few peaceful moments? Many work at home moms that I know do so or they get up early, before everyone else in their household awakens, in order to enjoy some tranquility before starting another busy day.

It’s refreshing, and so much so, that sometimes it’s worth bypassing those extra few moments of sleep that might be enjoyed late night or early morning. It’s a good time to relax but it’s also a great time to work without distraction, although I have become so accustomed to background noise when working that the quiet is almost distracting. But, hey, I’m not complaining!

I think I’ll go take a peek at my sleeping beauties and my husband. They all look so angelic when asleep. I’d take pictures, but I’m afraid the flash would wake them up. Instead, I’ll just sneak in a soft kiss on each forehead and then go back to enjoying the quiet, which will be gone all too soon as another day begins.

What do you like to do when you have the house to yourself and all is quiet?
