Upcoming Genealogy Events – January 29 – February 4, 2012

taking notes Every genealogy conference, workshop, or class holds within it an opportunity for you to learn more about your favorite hobby. It also can be a good way to meet other genealogists. Here are a few genealogy events that will be going on this week. If you don’t see one near where you live, then check your local paper to find out about more.

Today, January 29, 2012, Temple Beth Israel, which is located in Skokie, Illinois, will hold a presentation called “Tips, Tricks, and Tools to organizing your genealogy records with Family Tree Maker”. It will be presented by Jewish Genealogical Society of Illinois member Skip Bieber. Family Tree Maker is a genealogy software program. The presentation will begin at 2:00 in the afternoon.

On January 30, 2012, the Jefferson County Historical Research Center, which is located in Port Townsend, Washington, will begin a five-week genealogy course. The course is called “Introduction to Family Research History”. It will provide an overview of basic steps for successful genealogy research. The class will meet on Monday afternoons, from 1:00 in the afternoon until 3:30 in the afternoon. There is a fee involved.

On January 31, 2012, The Hoffman Center, which is located in Tillamook County, Oregon, will hold the last of its four week genealogy courses. The series is called “Introduction to Family History”, and will be instructed by Karen Merrill Martin. She has a certificate in Genealogical Studies from the National Institute of Genealogical Studies affiliated with the University of Toronto. This final class will start at 2:00 in the afternoon, and will end at 3:30 in the afternoon.

On February 1, 2012, the West Lawn- Wyomissing Hills Library, which is located in West Lawn, Pennsylvania, will hold a presentation called “Searching For Your Relatives”. It will be presented by Charlene Stehman, from the Berks County Genealogical Society. The presentation will begin at 7:00 in the evening.

On February 4, 2012, the Muskogee Public Library, which is located in Muskogee, Oklahoma, will have a book signing by Shirle Lamb Williams. She is the author of the book “Wagoner… in the beginning”. Her family has been a part of Wagoner, Oklahoma, since it was founded in 1887. The book signing will take place from 2:00 in the afternoon through 4:00 in the afternoon. Copies of the book will be for sale during the event.
