Upcoming Genealogy Events – Week of March 11, 2012

pen and paper There are plenty of genealogy classes that you can take online. Sometimes, though, it can be nice to get out of the house, and be around people who all enjoy doing genealogy. One way to find upcoming genealogy events, classes, or workshops, is to look in your local newspaper. Or, you might find one in this blog!

On March 12, 2012, the St. Augustine Episcopal Church, which is located in Vero Beach, Florida, will hold a genealogy class about the 1940 Federal Census. The class will start at 1:00 in the afternoon, and will end at 3:00 in the afternoon. It will cost adults $3.50 to attend.

On March 13, 2012, the Stillaguamish Valley Pioneer Hall, which is located in Arlington, Washington, will have a showing of the photos of Jerry Magelssen. He has photographic records of many of the barns in Arlington, Stanwood, Camano Island, and the surrounding Stillaguamish Valley Pioneer Hall. Some of these barns are over 100 years old, and some no longer exist. This showing will be open from 1:00 in the afternoon until 2:00 in the afternoon.

On March 14, 2012, the Citrus Heights Community Clubhouse, which is located in Citrus Heights, California, will have a Root Cellar Sacramento Genealogical Society program. Lorenzo Cuesta will be the guest speaker. He will provide examples of great finds that people have made using social media for genealogy research. He will also give you step-by-step instructions on how to get started. The program will start at 7:00 in the evening, and will end at 8:30 at night.

Also on March 14, 2012, the National Archives at Kansas City, which is located in Kansas City, Missouri, will hold a genealogy workshop called: “Introduction to Genealogy: Finding Your Ancestors in Federal Census Records”. It will begin at 10:00 in the morning, and will end at 11:30 in the morning. This workshop is for beginning genealogists, and it will teach you how and where to get started.

On March 16, 2012, the Civic Center, which is located in Port St. Lucie, Florida, will have a St. Patrick’s Day Festival. It will start at 10:00 in the morning, and will end at 8:00 at night. On March 17, 2012, there will be a St. Patrick’s Day Parade, that will begin at 11:00 in the morning.

On March 17, 2012, the Massillon Public Library, located in Massillion, Ohio, will hold a basic genealogy workshop. It is being sponsored by the Massillon Genealogy Society and the Friends of the Massillon Public Library. The workshop will begin at 10:00 in the morning and will end at 4:00 in the afternoon. There will be a break for lunch. The cost of attending is $20.00.
