Update on the Coffee Cut-back

I wrote back in October about my quest to cut back on coffee for my health’s sake. For me, coffee and working from home just go hand in hand. I was never much of a coffee drinker when I worked the “traditional” job—but since starting to work at home, I’ve become quite attached and it isn’t exactly great for my health or my frame of mind. So, I’ve been struggling trying to kick the habit…

I have cut way back—I am no longer brewing and drinking that pot a day and for a while, I was able to drink tea during the week and allowed myself the one pot of coffee on Sunday mornings. But as the weather has gotten colder and it is so dark and crisp in the mornings, that herbal tea just hasn’t been doing the trick. After a couple mornings of giving in to the coffee urge, I could really feel the tension and “buzzing” since my body had detoxed for weeks so I knew I couldn’t give up completely. Besides, I really need to be able to focus on working my business—not obsessing and managing my coffee intake!

So, like many things in life—I’ve come up with a compromise—I’m mixing 2 parts de-caffeinated coffee with 1 part “real” coffee and still trying to drink tea every other day. That way, I don’t have the whole depravation thinking going on that causes me to obsess about having coffee; I get the taste and experience of the steaming mug on my work desk; but I’m not maxing out on caffeine. When I was younger, I swore I would never be such a wimp as to drink the decaffeinated coffee (“What’s the point?!”) but I’m an old woman now with a home business to run—I have to pace myself and it seems to be a working solution for the time being!
