Want to make your garage more useful and even more attractive? Whether you want a relaxing place of your own to work, an organized space for your things, or a fun place to play, the following updates are well worth the effort. As a bonus, a nice garage will help raise your property value.
Update the garage floor with a custom look. You can do this in one of two ways. First, try an oil-based paint made specifically for concrete floors. It is easy to apply and comes in many different colors. You can also create checkerboards or other patterns. Concrete stain is another nice look. For a textured look, pick up two different shades of stain. Don’t forget to seal the floor. This is a must for durability and to prevent the stain from changing colors after it cures. Never wax a garage floor. The changes in temperature and humidity may affect the wax, turning it milky.
To hang gear, tools and other items, sheets of peg-board covering the walls are an easy update. You can move the hooks to reconfigure your space as your needs change. Some of todays pegboards are much more sophisticated than in the past boards full of holes, although you can still purchase traditional peg boards.
A track system for storage is easy to install and versatile. Almost anything can be hung from this type of system, including heavy sleeping bags and lawn care tools. Shelving accessories, baskets and hooks can all be attached in a track system. It will help keep everything off of the floor and takes us less bulk than a stand-alone shelf system.
Consider adding a custom built bench to your garage. It can provide seating for entertainment or putting on shoes. Selves underneath the bench can provide extra storage.
