Even if you love the look of your living room, love your furniture, you may find yourself wishing you could do a little updating. While many of us would rather not spend money on re-decorating right now since we’re busy shopping for Christmas, we may not be ready for a complete interior redesign either. Rearranging furniture is a job!
Well, you may be able to rearrange just a few things to create a fresh look and feel. This is actually a good time for it, since you’ll probably be doing some rearranging to make room for the Christmas tree. Even if you just create a temporary diversion during the holiday season, it can add new life to the living room, or really to any space.
You may choose to use the Christmas tree as your focal point and center seating areas around it instead of your usual focal point. Maybe, you prefer that the Christmas tree act as an accent. You can do many different things.
You can also use your holiday decorations to make each space feel different instead of opting for new furnishings and accessories. Try adding just a few new items to give the space some sparkle.
Another thought is choosing items that will work during the holidays but can also be used throughout the rest of the year. A crystal dish might be just right for the holidays when filled with rustic elements, shiny ornaments, or Christmas candy, but it will look great gracing an accent table on its own once the holidays have passed. It’s always good to find things you can re-use or that provide dual use.
I like to look for elements that can be dressed up or down depending on the mood or occasion. Items that can go from casual to festive or elegant in no time are the best choices. That’s one reason I love candles, because they are so versatile. So are vases and decorative bowls. They can stand alone for everyday use and be dressed up when the mood strikes or when a special occasion arises.
