Uses for Return Address Labels

I enjoy supporting Paralyzed Veterans of America and Veterans of Foreign Wars. I’m never able to contribute a whole lot, but for my small offerings, they keep me well supplied with return address labels. I also receive them from The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation(those are gorgeous – they have roses all over them) and from various other charities. These, added to the roll I ordered when we moved, combine to make a huge pile of return address labels that I’ll never get fully used up – especially when I do most of my communicating online.

But I’m not going to throw them away. Here are some ideas for ways you can use your extra labels:

1. When you lend a book or movie to a friend, put a label on it. This will remind them that it really doesn’t belong them, no matter how tempted they are to keep it!

2. If you are asked (or even better, if you volunteer) to bring food to a funeral or to a shut-in, put a label on the container instead of writing your name on masking tape. This will not only show the person washing the dishes who the pan belongs to, but it will help them know where to return it.

3. Do you have a lot of film to be developed? These days, with everyone going digital, maybe not so much – but if you’re like me and live in the Stone Age, you still turn in the little canisters. Instead of filling out the name and address information on the pouch, just throw a label on there and save yourself all that writing. I like to keep a sheet of labels in my purse for just such occasions.

4. Filling out a drawing or raffle slip? Signing up for a free trial? Nearly any time you need to give personal information, you can just slap a label on there instead. I wouldn’t recommend it on a job application, driver’s license application, or other important piece of documentation, however.

5. Can’t find a piece of tape? Use a label!

6. If you run into an old friend at the store and want to stay in touch, just give them one of your labels to stick in their address book or day planner. Another reason to keep them in your purse.

Get creative – you’ll find uses all over the place. Return address labels really are very handy to have around, and you may even find yourself getting excited when you get yet another sheet in the mail.
