Last night was THE night for musical artists – the Grammy awards ceremony. But, two prominent R&B artists missed the ceremony for entirely different reasons.
Usher’s wife, Tameka Raymond, is in a Brazilian hospital after suffering from a medical emergency. The singer’s spokesman Jeff O’Keefe released a statement Monday saying “Tameka Raymond is in stable condition after suffering complications from routine surgery in Brazil.” He added that Usher was with her, but wouldn’t release any further details and that the family was requesting privacy.
Usher had to cancel his performance at Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy gala. Davis, the CEO of Sony, did say that he had spoken to Usher’s mom (who is also his manager) and that his thoughts were with the family.
What kind of surgery was Tameka having? The family and its reps remain mum, but Access Hollywood is saying that she was in Brazil for a cosmetic procedure.
Chris Brown also missed the Grammys. Brown, a nominee, was set to perform at the ceremony last night, but he and girlfriend Rihanna cancelled at the last minute. Brown cancelled he was wanted by police for questioning on an alleged assault that occurred Sunday morning in Hancock Park in Los Angeles.
Us Weekly is reporting that it was Rihanna that made the 911 call claiming she was in a fight with Brown and he assaulted her. When the police arrived, the woman, who had visible injuries, was still there, but Brown had fled. He turned himself into the police right before the Grammys started at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
Brown was booked then released on a $50,000 bond. There is no word yet from his reps, but when Us contacted Rihanna’s reps, they were told that she is “well” and thanked them for their concern and support.
Brown’s court date is set for March 5th.
