If you take advantage of every opportunity to be frugal, you’ll soon find yourself practicing combinations. What are combinations? Well, they are a lot like multitasking. By making certain logical combinations, you can save money. (And yes, I am a fan of the television show, “Numbers.”)
Here are some common combinations that will help you save.
Combining exercise with an errand
As I mentioned in an earlier article, I used to take early morning walks with a friend. We would walk past a local produce store. Not only did we get a good workout (five to ten pounds of produce on the walk back added to the fitness factor), but we saved money on both the produce and the gas to get there.
Our new home is a bit more rural, and so there aren’t too many stores to walk to from the house. Which brings me to the next combination.
Combining exercise with a chore
I always shale my head when I see people spend hundred of dollars a month on gym memberships and then go and pay a lawn service to come and cut their laws. Why not combine the two and save on booth the gym membership and the lawn service? You can argue that mowing the lawn doesn’t work out all parts of your body, but it is still exercise. And, are there other chores around your home that would balance it out? Scrubbing the floor by hand can give your arms a great toning workout, for example.
Combining decoration with food
This is a lot of fun, I think. Why not have a decorative plant that also produces food. A nice example of this is a potted peach tree, or a “peach in a pot,” as it is often called. Miniature versions of many fruit trees are available, and then can be grown both indoors and out.
