With all that we are doing to spruce up the inside and the outside of our home for the big move, we have had to get innovative and work on a pretty small budget. We don’t want to spend a lot unless it is going to raise the value of our home. Many cosmetic fixes help the house sell better, yet do not warrant a higher price. The same goes for the outside of your home.
We decided to spend some time researching, checking out the smaller local garden centers and searching through books and magazines to get ideas for every single imaginable way to improve the look of our yard and garden. Here are some clever ideas that we came up with.
Containers
Utilize creative containers that you already have in hand. Have an old rusted wagon or a broken kiddie pool? Plant some flowers inside. Have a bucket or even an old toy of some kind that is hollow? Maybe an old milk container cut down? Again, plant bushes or flowers in these innovative, inexpensive containers. Drill holes in the bottom of whatever you choose to use for good drainage.
Pallets
After a visit to the local small garden store, I saw the cutest idea. They had taken an old pallet and used it as an enclosed garden. They had upended it and filled it in with leaves and dirt and planted several different types of plants and flowers in various locations throughout the outdoor garden. It had a really pretty and rustic effect and you would never know they were pallets.
Broken Pots? Broken Tiles?
No problem. Either use them in a mosaic effect in a garden stone, or use the pieces strategically placed within the garden. Wrap vines, ivy or even plants around these items. Place a broken pot on end and make it look as if its an old overturned barrel. Use broken pieces of tile or pot to decorate another pot and make it more attractive.
Garden Walkway Fence
Use old bricks, concrete blocks or make your own cement garden stones and place them around your garden or a bush or plants that you have planted. It creates a walkway look, yet contains the garden and keeps weeds and grass out.
