Vacation and Church

Do you go to church when you are out of town? When you are visiting family who are members of the church this is generally something that you would do with them. What about the times that you are on vacation in a strange city with just your family or in an area that may not have a church nearby? You have a few options available to you.

It is really quite easy to look up the nearest chapel and the meeting times at the church’s website. You can then attend the Sacrament service that is most convenient for you. This is easiest to do ahead of time. That way you can plan for transportation to and from church.

If you are in area that you think that there would not be a church service you may be surprised. My husband and I decided that we would attend some type of church services when we were in Yellowstone on our honeymoon. We thought that it would most likely be non-denominational church services, but when we looked up the times for church services, we realized that there was a LDS service available.

Of course there may not be one available. If this is the case, I suggest that you take some time as a family to have a spiritual lesson, sing together and pray. It is important to honor the Sabbath, even if you are on vacation. This time could include a time when you have a small testimony meeting. This is especially if it is a vacation with extended family.

In addition it can be easier to plan around traveling on the Sabbath. If you are on vacation, you can plan ahead and stock up on food in your hotel room, so that you do not need to eat every meal out. You may choose to do quieter activities, instead of going to the theme park that day as well.
