Your local dollar store is one stop shopping for various Valentine treats. From decorations to gifts, you’ll really clean up if you head there to shop. Here are some of my ideas for a variety of Valentines situations.
Let’s focus for this post just on the school class party.
Whether you are the head honcho in charge of organizing the class Valentine party or just a mom whose child wants to bring in a treat for the class, head to the dollar store. You can find the following items, cheaply and easily.
Pink cupcakes
Dollar stores often have odd-flavor cake mix. I scored a bunch of strawberry-flavored cake mix that easily turned into pin cupcakes, wonderfully appropriate for a Valentine theme. They also had some red sprinkles on deep discount (left over from Christmas, no doubt).
Pencils
Cute pencils are usually a good gift for the classroom. They are useful, and in my experience, both the teachers and the kids like them. If you can’t find actual Valentine-theme pencils, although they are usually available, try making your own.
Just take regular pencils and glue a red or pink pom-pom to the top of each one. Add some wiggle eyes, and you are all set. If you want to get even fancier, cut lengths of light colored ribbon and write “Happy Valentine’s Day” on each one before attaching it to the pencil.
Decorations
Dollar stores abound with plenty of seasonal decorations, so you shouldn’t have any trouble picking up exactly what you need. If for some reason you do, head over to the baby or birthday decoration sections. They might just have cute decorations that you can make work for Valentine’s Day as well.
Plates and Cups
Pick up a mixture of pink, red and white paper plates for pennies. The plates can also serve to create a craft idea for young kids, as well as being used for food. Cut a hole int he center of each plate. Then, little pieces of bunched up red, pink and white tissue paper can be glued to form a homemade wreath. Or, instead of cutting the hole, have each child glue a photo of him or herself to the middle of the plate.
